Small fire evacuates EGF building

By Doug Barrett Sep 7, 2023 | 9:06 AM

An early morning fire (Thursday) temporarily evacuated an addiction treatment center in East Grand Forks.

The East Grand Forks Fire Department responded to Douglas Place on Gateway Drive shortly before 2:30 a.m. When crews arrived on scene the building alarm system was operating and residents had already evacuated.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Hansen says occupants in one of the rooms were able to extinguish the flames located on top of the heating/cooling unit and extended up the window blinds. The fire was ruled accidental — caused by combustibles too close to the heating unit.

There were no injuries. A damage estimate was not released.
