The Grand Forks Health Department is getting a financial shot in the arm to help battle addiction.
The Grand Forks County Board has agreed to transfer some $50,000 dollars in opioid settlement money to help target treatment programs. The department’s Michael Dulitz says the county joined litigation against manufacturers and distributors of opioids in 2019 and have settlements in seven of ten cases. Dulitz says the amount totals some $689,000 over 17 years.
Dulitz says the department will use the money to help support an addiction program at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center and an addiction center in Grand Forks.
Dulitz says opioid and suspected opioid overdoses have been trending down in recent years due to investments made by the community.
