East Grand Forks students hit the books for the start of the 2023-24 school year today (Tuesday). District-595 is anticipating the opening day K-12 enrollment to be around 1,900 – up slightly from the end of the school year.
Superintendent Bryan Hackbarth says with a staff of around 300 the district is in pretty good shape. “”Kind of a work in progress as we had a lot of turnover this summer – and later into the summer. We worked really hard to get people in here and so overall East Grand Forks is sitting pretty good for staffing.”
Students will see a few changes this year including enhanced social emotional learning…new literacy curriculum for elementary grades…and universal free meals.
Hackbarth says some facility improvements were also completed over the summer months. “Nothing really significant this year but definitely some things that will improve our school district.”
This is also the first day of school for students at Sacred Heart.
