UND to focus on golf course redesign

The preferred design for the 42nd Street grade separation project in Grand Forks would necessitate major changes to the Ray Richards Golf Course.

The city would need to acquire acreage for a “jug handle”” to connect the corridor to DeMers Avenue. UND Associate Vice-President for Facilities Mike Pieper had some good news for golf fans during this week’s Town Hall meeting in that there are no plans to close the course. Pieper says they would partner with a golf architect on a redesign.  “We are looking at what our options are working with athletics on that.  Once we come up with an agreeable design solution they will build that into the project.  In addition there would be funding for any purchase of land needed to redesign that intersection.  The project (42nd) will cover 100% of the cost.”

The city is working with the North Dakota DOT on the underpass alternatives and potential land acquisition. Construction is still a few years down the road at an estimated cost of some $60 million dollars.
