A small town in southeast Minnesota facing the loss of its police department may get some temporary help.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says it has reached a tentative agreement with the city of Goodhue to provide police services through the end of this year – pending city approval. And the Sheriff’s Office says it will hold further discussions with the city about police service in 2024.

The move was sparked by news that the city’s police chief and one officer would resign on Aug. 23rd. After hearing that news, another full-time officer and five part-time employees resigned.

The chief said the city wasn’t offering enough money, while other places offered better pay.

The city of Goodhue has about 1,300 residents.
