EGF hosts MN Senate panel

East Grand Forks leaders had a 20 minute visit with members of the Minnesota Senate’s Capital Investment Committee on Wednesday to pitch the city’s request for $7.4 million dollars in bonding.

The East Grand Forks council is asking for the funds to support improvements to recreational, facilities – namely the Civic Center and VFW Arena. If the state concurs the money would supplement a proposed one-percent sales tax “ask” of voters in November 2024. The total project exceeds $22 million dollars.

The 2023 Legislative Session included the passage of a $2.6 billion bonding bill. One estimate suggests preliminary capital budget requests submitted by state agencies and political subdivisions for 2024 total nearly $7.4 billion
