East Grand Forks is the latest city to approve an ordinance prohibiting the use of THC products in public.
Without discussion the council gave final reading last night (Tuesday) to the ban that would make the use of cannabis products in public a petty misdemeanor. It includes all forms of the product from cannabis flowers to edibles.
Under Minnesota law the penalty would carry a maximum fine of up to $300.
Recreational marijuana became legal in Minnesota on August 1st.

The East Grand Forks council gave final readings to ordinances designed to pave the way for electric scooter rentals in the city. Bird Rides Inc. wants to expand scooter use from Grand Forks into East Grand Forks. The East Grand Forks ordinance does not allow any sidewalk use. Scooters will be allowed to be used on roads that had a speed limit of 30 miles per hour or less. The initial application fee is set at $2,000 dollars.

East Grand Forks has a new Park and Rec Superintendent – at least on an interim basis. The city council officially named Public Works Supervisor Jeremy King to fill the post left vacant by the hiring of Reid Huttunen as city administrator. The city has posted the job through August 28th. Huttenen says if all goes well the goal is to find a permanent replacement by mid-October. King has indicated he will apply for the job.
