Birds will soon be roaming the streets of East Grand Forks.
The city council last night gave preliminary approval to setting the appli-cation fee for the electronic scooters at $2,000. Bird Rides Inc. would be able to place up to 100 scooters in town. That’s about one-fourth as many that is allowed in Grand Forks.
Council member Brian Larson says despite having fewer scooters he likes the application fee Grand Forks has in place. “I would think we have a lot of the same fixed costs as the city of Grand Forks with legal reviews and administrative efforts regardless of how many scooters.” Final council approval is expected next week.

Public Works Supervisor Jeremy King has notified the city he is interested in the job. During last night’s (Tuesday) work session there was consensus for appointing King on an interim basis. The position has been posted through August 28th. Huttenen says if all goes well the goal is to fill the post by mid-October.

The East Grand Forks council is expected to give final approval next week to a new contact with Widseth for engineering services. The negotiated deal with City Engineer Steve Emery was the result of an ad hoc budget committee’s recommendation to review the contract. The agreement runs through the 2025 calendar year.
During last night’s (Tuesday) work session the council also looked over the contract of City Attorney Ron Galstad for legal services.
