A fugitive wanted on drug charges in North Dakota was apprehended this week in Mexico.

The U-S Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Deanna Gerads of St. Cloud was captured by Mexican immigration officers on Tuesday and deported. She appeared Thursday in federal court in Houston.

Gerads will be transported to North Dakota for an initial court appearance.

She is charged with Conspiracy to Distribute and Import Controlled Substances into the U-S.

U-S authorities say the FBI was instrumental in providing information that led to the apprehension of Gerads, who has been a fugitive for more than a year.

The case is part of “Operation Unfinished Business II,” an Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation into the international trafficking of methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl.
