GF School Board: Central pool…pay & leadership change

By Doug Barrett Jul 11, 2023 | 8:16 AM

Finding a fix for the shuttered Central High School pool took a step forward last night (Monday) as the Grand Forks School Board agreed to release a request for qualifications to help select a design firm.

Business Manager Brandon Baumbach says an RFQ is the next step in the process. Preliminary estimates suggest the needed improvements could cost between $1 and $3 million dollars.

Superintendent Terry Brenner says aquatic engineers suggest the pool itself is in good shape if moisture issues can be addressed.

Current swim teams have been practicing at the UND Hyslop pool. UND is planning to take Hyslop offline effective July 1, 2024.

Substitute teachers in the Grand Forks District will see a bump in pay under action by the school board. The $135 dollar a day rate will climb on average 9.32% for the 2023-24 school year. The cost to implement the tiered approach would be approximately $290,000.
Under the funding formula subs with an interim license would receive $139.93 a day. Teachers with a regular license $149.93 per day. Substitute teachers who are retired teachers would be paid a daily rate of $174.92.

A change of leadership on the Grand Forks School Board. Members elected Amber Flynn as its new President and Dave Berger as Vice President.  Both selections were made unanimously.  Flynn replaces Eric Lunn in the top position.
