Saturday (July 1) is the day that the popular Chinese social media platform TikTok will be blocked on all State University System devices and networks in North Dakota.
The State Higher Ed Board made that decision in March for reasons of national security.
UND got an early start on the ban, imposing it more than a week ago, in coordination with the University System.
Vice-Chancellor of Information Technology Darin King told the Board this week that there have been no problems so far.
“At this point, the network block seems to be working as advertised, seems to be doing what it’s supposed to do,” King said. “And we’ll continue to work with campuses over these next couple of days to make sure that they’ve got the help the need – if they need help – in dealing with the devices on campus.”
People may continue accessing TikTok on their personal devices, as long as it is not accessed through the North Dakota University System network.
