East Grand Forks School Superintendent Mike Kolness used his last meeting with the board this week to thank the community for seven plus years as District-595’s top educator. Kolness is leaving at the end of the week to head up the Kindred (ND) school system.
In closing comments Kolness says there’s a lot of positive things happening in the district and he gave credit to the families…students…staff and board for making that happen. “There’s been ups and downs. The COVID experience wasn’t good for anybody. I think it made us all stronger. There are some really good things going on here with good people.”
The school board has hired former Greenway Superintendent Bryan Hackbarth to serve as interim superintendent.
The district suspended the search for a permanent leader in May after only receiving two applicants. The search will resume again come fall – and Hackbarth is expected to be a potential candidate.
