After much discussion the Grand Forks County Commission and Grand Forks Fair Board have finalized a 25 year land use agreement. The deal paves the way for construction of the juvenile detention and correction center expansion project.
For weeks the two sides have been discussing how the work and staging would impact access to the grounds…speedway…sewer…and parking.
State’s Attorney Haley Wamstad says in drafting the lease several electrical issues were identified. “Once the electricity is on the property how its routed is the thing that’s causing problems. That’s why it’s not an Xcel Energy issue.”
The county will spend upwards of $100,000 dollars to address safety concerns with the electrical system.

Grand Forks County will enter into negotiations with Miller Dunwiddie for architectural services to address the leaky courthouse dome. A selection committee made the recommendation to the county board after interviewing two firms for the project.
Meanwhile…commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution for $5 million dollars in a Bank of North Dakota bond to pay for the repairs.
