Former Gopher women’s basketball coach Lindsay Whalen is getting a $215,000 buyout, after choosing not to remain in an administrative role at Minnesota following her dismissal as coach.
That buyout was in Whalen’s contract for termination without cause, according to her release agreement with the university.
When Whalen’s dismissal was announced on March 2nd, athletic director Mark Coyle framed the decision as mutual.
Whalen had a record of 71 wins and 76 losses in five seasons.
This past season, the Gophers finished 11-19 overall and tied for 12th in the Big Ten with a 4-12 record, their lowest win total in 12 years.
