EGF looking for budget savings

By Doug Barrett Jun 14, 2023 | 8:21 AM

An ad hoc committee charged with finding savings in the East Grand Forks budget for 2024 and beyond shared their preliminary discussions with members of the city council last night (Tuesday).

The topics range from eliminating the Economic Development Director position to selling the Senior Center…having an in-house engineering department…and library changes.  Another item on the table is eliminating the EGFPD school resource officer and the examination of Park and Rec activity fees.

Finance Director Karla Anderson says based on a projected 5% levy increase and a lot of  assumptions the anticipated 2024 budget comes up short to the tune of $480,000.

The committee plans to survey council members on their budget priorities so they can dig deeper into potential savings.

The idea of the committee surfaced during the 2023 budget process that resulted in a 10% levy increase and the city dipping into its budget reserves.
