ND is watching MN’s recreational pot program

By Doug Barrett Jun 5, 2023 | 9:22 AM

North Dakota’s Division of Medical Marijuana will be monitoring Minnesota’s rollout of recreational pot.

Division Director Jason Wahl says when Montana went recreational it did have a negative impact on the two dispensaries on the western side of the state – Williston and Dickinson. Wahl says as far as how it might impact Grand Forks and Fargo – only time will tell.

Wahl says Minnesota’s program will offer edibles which has not been approved under North Dakota’s medical marijuana program.  “I can’t speculate if North Dakota residents will cross over and legally purchase a product in Minnesota and if they transport it back to North Dakota would be considered to be in illegal possession – or how many are in the North Dakota medical program.”

Wahl says he also doesn’t know if cost will come into play but generally speaking states with only a medical marijuana program have lower pricing.

Around 9,500 North Dakotans qualify for the state’s medical pot program.
