More than 20 rail cars derailed along U.S. Highway 59 near Lancaster (MN) on Wednesday.
According to the Lancaster Fire Department some of the rail cars were carrying flammable liquid but it was confined within the tankers.
Authorities say no injuries have been reported. A sheriff’s department spokesperson says it could take several days to complete repairs and get the chemical removed.
Highway 59 is closed from Lancaster to Lake Bronson and detour routes have been set up. Traffic is being routed around the scene via Highway 175 and County Road 5.
Tweeting Wednesday night, Gov. Tim Walz said state officials were working with local emergency managers on the train derailment and that “experts were on the way to survey the site and make sure the community has everything they need.”
