Grand Forks health officials have already launched the annual campaign against mosquitoes. The summer pests are starting to show up in parks and backyards.
Todd Hanson of Grand Forks mosquito control says larviciding efforts are underway and daily trap count numbers are being released.
Hanson says it’s difficult to say whether this will be a bad year for the biting bugs. “What I can tell you is the more rain we have the more we will have mosquitoes…it’s really dependent on that.’
Last year Grand Forks – East Grand Forks launched six ground sprays to knock down the local mosquito population. That compares to just one spray in 2021. In 2016 the department launched 11 ground attacks.
