GFEA reaches deal on new contract

By Doug Barrett May 24, 2023 | 10:11 AM

With a tentative teachers contract in place the Grand Forks School District will begin the task of negotiating new deals with classified staff….directors…and principals.

School board negotiators wrapped up talks with the GFEA last night on a new two-year deal that will cost the district around $7.75 million dollars.   It boosts the step salaries by $4,000 in the first year and $2,500 in 2024-25.  Teachers with 26 to 34 years of experience would receive a career stipend of $1,000 – and those with more than 35-years of experience $2,000.

The starting pay for teachers will climb from $42,977 to $46,977.

School Board V-P Amber Flynn says the salary package will translate into the district having to deficit spend by some $1.3 million dollars over the two-year span.

If ratified by the teachers the contract will go the school board for approval at the June 12th meeting.
