GFSO still looking for a new home

By Doug Barrett May 22, 2023 | 6:52 AM

The Grand Forks County Commission is expected to schedule a meeting in the near future with the goal of finding a new home for the sheriff’s department.

Since 2019 the City of Grand Forks has hinted at the need to move the GFSO out of the Police Building. The P-D’s need for more space prompted the relocation of Emergency Management earlier this year.

County Administrator Tom Ford says the options range from purchasing a building…new construction…or lease a site elsewhere.  “The commission needs to discuss what it wants to do…the options…the funding…so that staff and the sheriff we can start running the down.”

Ford says there have been some conversations about a joint law enforcement center – including the GFSO…Grand Forks Police…PSAP…and the Emergency Management EOC. He says city staff have shown some interest in the plan.

The deadline for the GFSO to make a move is the end of 2026 or early 2027.
