Officials in the Devils Lake area say – depending on the weather – the ice on Devils Lake could be broken up by this weekend.
Jeff Frith is Manager of the Devils Lake Basin Joint Water Resource Board. He says while the dry soil profile absorbed a lot of the spring run-off, the lake still saw a one-foot rise in the lake elevation. Frith says with the ice going off the lake, crews will soon start their work on activating two large pumping stations designed to skim water off the flood swollen lake.
Frith says May 15th – next Monday – is being looked at for a possible firing-up of the outlet pumps for this year.
