NCTC president vows to mend fences with faculty

By Doug Barrett May 11, 2023 | 8:27 AM

A group of faculty members have issued a “no confidence” vote in the leadership of Northland Community and Technical College President Sandra Kiddoo.

A statement released by Education Minnesota suggests 88% of the faculty participated in the process and 96% supported the “no confidence” stance. The results were forwarded to Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra.

In prepared remarks East Grand Forks faculty President Brent Braga says Northland faculty are frustrated and feel the campus would be “best served” by a new leader.

In a statement to KNOX News President Kiddoo says given the long term enrollment challenges in the aftermath of the pandemic high turnover rates are not uncommon. The president says she is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities for the region. Kiddoo also pledges to work with faculty leadership to address their concerns and move the college forward.

Full Statement: President Kiddo

“Given the long term enrollment challenges and the aftermath of the pandemic at higher education providers throughout the country, high rates of turnover are not uncommon.  I fully understand the concerns, anxiety, and discontentment among the Northland community these changes bring.  I am committed to continued collaborative conversations in how I can improve and work together to provide high quality and affordable education opportunities for our region.  I will continue to work with faculty leadership and other bargaining units to put in place plans to address their concerns and to move the college forward, working  towards our collective mission of transforming the lives of our students and our communities through a welcome, supportive and integrative learning environment.”
