Grand Forks Sheriff’s deputies will see a bump in pay under action by the county commission on Tuesday.
The board adopted a salary schedule that begins July 1st that increases county costs by $150,000 dollars through the remainder of the year.
Sheriff Andy Schneider says the widening pay gap with other agencies is impacting the ability to hire. In addition to the salary adjustment deputies would be eligible for a cost-of-living increase in 2024.
Commissioner Mark Rustad made the motion to increase GFSO pay. “The gap between the city police force and sheriff’s deputies is about to widen substantially. This gap is going to close for now – but it’s still going to be ongoing.”
The county will pay for the salary plan by tapping into a $1.6 million dollar COVID relief fund for 2023. The increase will be part of the budget moving forward.
