The Grand Forks School District is working on establishment of a Virtual Secondary School. The state of North Dakota is allowing local districts to offer “virtual academies” to help provide another pathway towards graduation.
Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Catherine Gillach told board members last night (Monday) that there are some students who have had a hard time reengaging back on campus since the pandemic. “There are students that have strong anxieties…students with medical concerns about coming on to campus where they are exposed to harm is not for them. We also have a higher population of students engaged in home schooling.”
The program would be required to follow the same standards and verification guidelines outlined for all North Dakota Public Schools.
The district is hoping to provide the offering in time for the next school year.
