GF schools prepare for May referendum

By Doug Barrett Apr 12, 2023 | 9:29 AM

The Grand Forks School Board received a crash course on the May 16th referendum last night.

Members reviewed the latest renderings for the proposed $55 million dollar new Valley Middle School project. The briefing also including details about an $18 million dollar upgrade for safety and security throughout the district.

Kyle Kvamme of ICON Architects says a major component of the plan is creating secure entrances to all buildings.

Assistant Superintendent Catherine Gillach says the security measure would also improve internal communication and technology which is getting quite dated.

The $79 million dollar election “ask” would cost the owner of a $100,000 dollar home around $96.93 cents over the 20 year bond.
