Police say 48 cats were removed from a Fargo hotel room this (Thu) morning after the tenants were evicted.
Fargo police were called to the Baymont Inn on 21st Avenue South on Wednesday. Hotel management said an elderly couple were hoarding cats in their room. Management thought 20 cats were inside, and wanted the couple to leave immediately.
After speaking with officers, it was decided to allow the cats to stay in the room an extra day, so they could be safely relocated by animal control.
A Fargo Community Service officer and an animal shelter director started putting the cats in crates this (Thu) morning, but needed extra resources when they found 48 cats in the room. It took three hours to remove the cats, who were taken to the pound for evaluation.
Police say, after any medical concerns are addressed, the cats will be placed with several area shelters to begin the adoption process.
