A public input meeting last night (Thursday) gave Grand Forks residents a first glimpse at what a proposed new I-29 interchange might look like between 32nd Avenue south and 62nd Avenue South.
According to the North Dakota DOT a disproportional amount of growth in Grand Forks is expected around 32nd Avenue South and 47th. With only one interstate access the state analysis says there is an over-reliance on 32nd Avenue. The 2050 traffic model suggests without improvements on the system there will be major deficiencies on every key intersection along the 32nd corridor giving the stretch a letter grade “F.”
I-29 was constructed in 1968. Since the original construction no new interchanges have been built in Grand Forks. The project is still in the preliminary design phase – including identifying funding.
