
The number of Americans applying for jobless benefits fell to the lowest level in more than three months last week, reflecting a still-robust job market despite the Federal Reserve’s efforts to cool the economy and bring down decades-high inflation. The Labor Department reports applications for unemployment aid for the week ending Dec. 31 fell by 19,000 to 204,000.
The Labor Market Information Center has released the latest Online Job Openings Report – a monthly summary of online job openings and active résumés from Job Service North Dakota’s labor exchange system. North Dakota had a total of 16,133 open and available online job openings in December 2022, a change of +0.8 percent (+132) from the prior month and -5.5 percent (-940) from the same month one year ago.
Shortages of computer chips and other parts continued to hobble the U.S. auto industry last year. That led to sales dropping 8% from 2021 to the lowest level in more than a decade. Home sales in Grand Forks / East Grand Forks slipped slightly in December. A total of 59 homes…townhomes…and condos were sold last month. That compares to 70 plus in each of the past two years. The average sales price was $315,998. The figures by the Grand Forks Area Association of realtors do not include private sales.
The Alerus Center has tallied up some event figures for 2022. The building says the average attendance for the 13 concerts booked last year climbed to over 7,000. It also marked the first time the Alerus Center hosted three or more concerts with attendance greater than 11,000.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) National Servicing Center ranked North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) as a Tier 1 Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loan servicer for FY 2022. This is the fifth year running in which the agency has achieved this ranking. NDHFA has serviced its own mortgage loans since 1991.
The North Dakota Department of transportation has scheduled a public input meeting in Grand Forks to talk about proposed improvements to I-29. The project is studying the potential for a new interchange between 32nd Avenue South and 62nd Avenue South in Grand Forks. The meeting is set for June 12th at the Hampton Inn at 2985 South 42nd Street. (5-7 p.m.)
The Grand Forks Planning & Zoning Commission has given preliminary approval to a PUD zoning request for the North Dakota Coffee Roastery Building at 1401 Dyke Avenue. The Bully Brew owner currently uses the site for office space and a coffee roaster. The change in zoning would allow a portion of the property to be used for event space for up to 25 people. The city council will have the final say on the Micro PUD request.
Mercedes is recalling nearly 324,000 vehicles in the U.S. because the engines can stall while they’re being driven. The recall covers a range of models from the 2012 to 2020 model years including the ML550, ML350, AMG ML63, ML250, ML400, GLE450, GLE300, GLE350, GLE550, GLE400, AMG GLE43, and AMG GLE63. Owners will be notified by letter starting Feb. 21.
