Update 12:30 PM:
Gov. Doug Burgum has announced that Tammy Miller will succeed Brent Sanford as lieutenant governor of North Dakota beginning Jan. 3.
Miller has been chief operating officer in the Governor’s Office since April 2020.
She previously served as CEO and board chair since 2006 at Fargo-based Border States electric.
She will serve the remaining two years of Sanford’s term. Sanford announced earlier today that he would resign Jan. 2 saying he wanted to return to the private sector … and focus on his family and career.
Burgum says Miller’s background and her knowledge of state government make her an excellent choice to be lieutenant governor.
Miller is a native of Brocket (ND) who graduated from high school in Lakota.
