U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer says he hopes to learn more next week about the no jurisdiction claim by the Committee on the Foreign Investment in the United States regarding the proposed Fufeng project in Grand Forks.
The CFIUS review was requested over security concerns…the company’s ties to China…and its close proximity to the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
Cramer says he has some top secret briefings planned – including one with the Treasury Department – A CFIUS participant. “Which means they did do some research…some investigating…they do have classified findings. I’ve also asked for a briefing with the Department of Air Force.”
Cramer says given the sensitivity of the material it’s doubtful he will be able to share any of the meeting information. “Maybe we will learn something that’s not classified that will b helpful in the decision making process.”
The city council will likely get a chance to weigh in on the GFIUS ruling in early January.
