The early results show positive support for construction of a new Valley Middle School.
A recent school district survey targeting facility needs drew around 1,200 responses. Preliminary results were presented to members of the Valley Middle School Referendum Committee today (Tuesday).
A majority of respondents said they would support a bond issue for new construction over remodeling the existing building. The committee is also recommending the school board proceed with a bond election in May. The board will weigh in on the survey results on Monday night.
Preliminary estimates put construction of the new middle school at around $55 million dollars. Superintendent Terry Brenner says with inflation impacting so many it was good to see the level of support.
In a related note the Grand Forks Park Board this week approved a land swap deal with the school district contingent upon bond approval. Park officials would exchange 1.97 acres of land in University Park for the Valley build and move the existing softball fields to the current school site once construction is completed.
