GF school survey going well

Grand Forks school officials say they are pleased with the public response to a survey on the idea of building a new Valley Middle School. The project would carry a $55 million dollar price-tag. A new central kitchen is also part of the plan at a cost of $6 million dollars.

The district held a forum last night (Wednesday) at Valley Middle School to answer questions about the survey and potential bond referendum. Kyle Kvamme of ICON Architects says they have received nearly one-thousand responses to date.  “Typically if you see around 10% to 15% return on the survey that’s huge…that’s great.  We already feel like we are in a good spot.  Next week we’ll start pushing out communication through PTO’s and schools to say please take the survey and tell us how you feel.”

The survey is available until November 28th. It’s estimated the new build would cost the owner of a $100,000 dollar home around $79.47 cents a year. The district is looking at a referendum on the bond issue next spring.
