EGF to look into election concerns (update)

By Doug Barrett Nov 16, 2022 | 8:51 AM

A ballot question that prevented the East Grand Forks council from finalizing the results of the 2022 election last night (Tuesday) may have been resolved.

Council member Tim Johnson voiced concerns that the Ward 4 ballot may have allowed people to vote for Ward 2 candidates as well. Johnson called the situation not good.

An East Grand Forks staff report says a closer review of Election Day ballots cast in Ward 4 today (Wednesday) did not find any with Ward 2 candidates listed. It goes on to say a public accuracy test by Polk County election officials on October 28th also did not come across any issues.

The city has ten days after the election to certify the results – prompting the need for a special council meeting tomorrow evening (Thursday).

In other council notes members continue to work on a 2023 budget.  Rising utility casts and wages could result in a 4% levy increase next year,  A Truth and Taxation hearing on the next year’s budget is set for December 6th.
