No. 3 North Dakota overcame a pair of three-goal deficits to rally for a 5-5 tie against No. 8/7 Quinnipiac Friday night at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Gavin Hain capped a rally in the third period with his fourth goal of the season to give UND (2-0-1) a 5-4 lead with just 11 minutes to play. CJ McGee knotted the game 5-5 just two minutes later to send the contest into overtime.
In the extra session UND killed off a pair of 4-on-3 power plays for the Bobcats (1-0-2) to preserve the tie.
The two sides played a three-person shootout with North Dakota coming out victorious, 2-1.
