Altru release:
Altru Health System announced today that Cory Geffre, MSMSL, RN, BSN, has
been selected as the organization’s new executive vice president of hospital operations and chief nursing
officer beginning December 2022. Geffre will take over from Janice Hamscher, who recently announced
her plans to retire.
Geffre brings over 22 years of experience in healthcare leadership and business development, most
recently serving as vice president and chief nursing officer at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames, IA
since 2019. Previous to that, he served as vice president and chief nursing officer at Avera St. Luke’s
Hospital in Aberdeen, SD for nearly three years. In his role at Altru, Geffre will provide executive
leadership for the organization and oversight of nursing practices, clinical services, and evidence-based
patient care services.
“I am thrilled to welcome Cory to our executive team and the nursing team at Altru,” shared Todd Forkel,
chief executive officer at Altru. “Cory’s background in nursing, leadership, and business development
gives him a unique perspective that aligns compassionate care with a focus on growth and development.
I am confident that Cory’s nursing leadership, business acumen, and innovative thinking will have a
significant impact on our organization and the care our patients receive.”
Geffre received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master
of Science in Management, Strategy, and Leadership from Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State
University. Before taking on roles in nursing leadership, he owned a business consulting company
providing small businesses with consulting on strategy, market innovation, and business growth. He also
worked as a sales representative and business growth strategist for Zimmer-Biomet for thirteen years.
“I have always been passionate about healthcare in the upper Midwest,” expressed Geffre. “I am excited
to be joining an organization that is wholly committed to delivering high-quality healthcare in that region.
Throughout the interview process, I met physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, and leaders dedicated to Altru
and its mission. Their passion for Altru was so contagious, it became an easy decision for me to join the
Altru team.”
