GF County Courthouse dome repairs under review

By Doug Barrett Oct 9, 2022 | 10:27 PM

Grand Forks County could get some initial cost estimates for fixing the leaky courthouse dome by early next month (November).

The Minneapolis-based firm Miller Dunwiddie has completed an initial inspection of the site.  County Administrator Tom Ford told commission members this week the news is not great.  “Lot of moisture damage was found in that dome area.  Some of the steel trusses look like they have been compromised.”

Commission Chair Tom Falck says delaying repairs will only make matters worse.  “If you go upstairs there are two different scaffolds set outside the courtrooms so that falling plaster doesn’t fall on you as you walk into the courtroom.  We have to get after it right away.”

The courthouse dates back to 1913.
