GFAFB reacts to CFIUS review

By Doug Barrett Oct 7, 2022 | 9:16 AM

The Grand Forks Air Force Base will give the city some room as it awaits a ruling by the Committee on Foreign Investment over the proposed Fufeng project.

A statement issued by the base on Thursday to local leaders says as a result of recent developments related to the corn milling plant the GFAFB will refrain from official engagements with city administration in order to avoid conflicts of interest during the CFIUS review process.

The decision will result in the cancellation of BRIC meetings…Col. Tim Curry’s Air Combat Command trip…and postpone the annual State of the Base address indefinitely.

The statement says the goal is to ensure the independence and integrity of the review process. It goes on to say the “Grand Forks Air Force Base will absolutely maintain our close community ties we have enjoyed for decades.”

The Fufeng project has stirred controversial and raised national security concerns because of its financial ties to China and the close proximity to the GFAFB. The CFIUS findings are anticipated during the second half of November.
