Enrollment in the eleven colleges that make up North Dakota’s University System increased this fall.
A report presented to the North Dakota Board of Higher Education this week (Thursday) shows the student count at 43,545 – up 161 over last year. UND sports the largest enrollment at 13,876 followed by NDSU at 12,242. Williston State College is the smallest campus with just 924 students.
Director of institutional Research Dr. Jen Weber says when looking at the numbers a couple of things stood out. Weber says Minnesota tuition reciprocity requests were down 2%…and the number of North Dakota students were down 3%. “As a whole our system 80% of students are either North Dakota or Minnesota so this is an area we need to pay attention to”
Weber says another trend is that over 4,000 high school students were enrolled in dual-credit courses this past year.

Without discussion the North Dakota Board of Higher Education on Thursday approved UND’s request to begin fundraising some $86.5 million dollars for phase one of a multi-phase project would create a science…engineering…and national security corridor on campus.
The initial work includes upgrades to the College of Engineering and Mines which has grown from 1,300 students in 2010 to over 2,100 students in 2022.
The plan also includes demolition of the Hyslop Sports Center and repurposing the site. UND estimates design work could start in 2023. The entire project will be broken into three phases with construction beginning in 2024 – with a completion date of 2028.
