EGF Parks & Rec eye conduct policy

By Doug Barrett Sep 30, 2022 | 9:24 AM

The East Grand Forks Park District will ask all players…parents…and coaches to sign a Personal Conduct and Discipline Policy before enrolling in winter sports.

Parks Superintendent Reid Huttunen says the policy is not in response to an increase in bad behavior but rather to add clarity should such events take place. He says right now complaints are handled on a case by case basis.  “It would apply to all the different youth sports we offer so that if we have an issue of poor conduct we have an explanation of what our policy will be.”

Huttunen asked the city council review the document this week. It also spells out potential penalties and establishes a Discipline Committee for more serious infractions.
Council President Mark Olstad says he’s a fan.  “It’s laid out what the consequences are and how we would expect someone wearing a sweater or jersey from East Grand Forks should act.”

The council could approve the policy as soon as next week.
