Bernie’s restaurant in East Grand Forks will officially open to the public on Saturday.
The eatery owned by the Food Network’s Molly Yeh will initially offer breakfast and lunch from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day – with dinner service rolling out in the coming weeks.
Bernie’s is described as a blend of cozy farmhouse meets classic European café with nods to the preserved Art Deco of the historic building. Abby Jensen of Minneapolis-based JDD studio designed the multiple spaces within Bernie’s.
In a Facebook post Yeh encourages patrons to come in for the bread and stay for “baloney sandwiches.”
Yeh has tapped Chef Casey Gipson to serve as Executive Chef. Casey is a graduate of the California Culinary Academy who has lengthy resume of experience.
East Grand Forks Mayor Steve Gander confirmed the restaurant during his State of the City address in April. Yeh and her husband Nick Hagen have been married since 2014 and live on Nick’s family farm.
Bernie’s is located in the former Whitey’s and Sickies location. Sickies closed in August 2021.
