GF County working to spread the word on Home Rule

By Doug Barrett Sep 22, 2022 | 8:38 AM

Grand Forks County voters will be getting something soon – a mailer with information about pending home rule questions on the November ballot.
The County Commission approved the mailer this week at a cost of around $9,000 dollars.
The ballot will include a half-cent sales tax ask to fund a jail expansion and juvenile detention project.
Commission Chair Tom Falk asked that language on the mailer be clarified to make it clear that passage of the sales tax will replace the seven mills against property taxes to fund construction.
Several commissioners expressed concerns that a previous mailer didn’t reach every household in the county
The info campaign is scheduled to go out the week of October 10th.
Meanwhile a series of townhall events are also scheduled in the coming weeks to discuss Home Rule.
• Grand Forks City Council meeting September 26th @ 5:30pm
