Drone company voices concerns over Fufeng

By Doug Barrett Sep 21, 2022 | 1:25 PM

A drone manufacturing company has come out against the proposed Fufeng project in Grand Forks.

General Atomics has issued a statement expressing security concerns should the Chinese agricultural conglomerate develop a large-scale corn milling plant in north Grand Forks.  G-A has operated in the Grand Forks area for more than a decade with a test and training center at Grand Sky.

In a company statement G-A spokesman C. Mark Brinkley says while they understand the economic opportunities the project represents for Grand Forks no measure of assurances from the company can offset risks being introduced.   Brinkley adds the strategic national security value of Grand Forks cannot be overstated.

The Committee on Foreign Investment is currently reviewing the corn milling project.  That review could take several months to complete.

The City of Grand Forks has paused construction work associated with Fufeng pending the CFIUS findings.
