Family members urged the court to sentence an East Grand Forks man to the maximum allowed by law for the murder of Megan Gustafson nearly one year ago.

Ahmed Abdullahi pleaded guilty in June to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm. Abdullahi was accused of shooting and killing the 28-year old year old woman during an argument on September 12th.

The court sentenced Abdullahi this afternoon to 35 years in jail plus restitution to the family in the amount of $25,579 dollars.

Prior to sentencing several family members objected to the plea agreement. They told the court the defendant left a young daughter without a mother.

Defense Attorney Tyler Morrow told the court there is no sentence than can bring Megan back.

Abdullahi apologized to family members adding – quote – “I took something from you and I am sorry. I miss her. I don’t know what happened.”
