On September first, the Departments of Human Services and Health officially will merger, becoming the state department of health and Human Services.
The 2021 Legislature approved the merger – but gave the agencies time to work out any problems. The agencies have worked with consultants, to help smooth the transition.
State Human Services director Chris Jones says there have been a few issues to work through, in terms of budgeting and communication. “From a policy and citizen perspective we haven’t run into anything. It’s really a great policy integration. It has given us a roadmap to becoming more efficient as a combined agency.”
Jones says no one will lose a job because of the merger.
