GF County takes first step towards dome repairs

By Doug Barrett Aug 22, 2022 | 7:22 AM

The Grand Forks County Commission has approved a contract with a Minneapolis-based firm to do an assessment of the leaky courthouse dome.

The architecture firm of Miller Dunwiddie will spend the next 2-3 months coming up with an action plan for repairs.

Earlier this year several holes were discovered in the cast iron dome resulting in rain water leaking onto the third floor.

County Administrator Tom Ford says there are not a lot of contractors that specialize in historical restoration. The cost of the potential fix won’t be known until after the assessment.
The courthouse dates back to 1913.
