GF council eyes 2023 budget plan

By Doug Barrett Aug 2, 2022 | 9:00 AM

A public hearing date is set September 19th on a proposed 2023 budget for the City of Grand Forks.

The city council gave preliminary approval to the $226.6 million dollar spending plan last night. It represents a 2.28% increase over the current budget and holds property taxes to valuation increases. Utility rates would climb $2.67 per month for the average user.

One change from previous discussions is the addition of a one-percent increase in the performance pay plan for employees. The city hopes to offset the $229,000 in additional spending through savings on health insurance rates which are still being negotiated.

Between now and final budget approval the council can lower…not raise…the preliminary 2023 figures.
