ND oil production inching up

By Doug Barrett Jul 25, 2022 | 8:16 AM

After oil production in the Williston Basin was significantly reduced in April, due to blizzards, May showed a rebound.

That from North Dakota Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms.

The April production fell to about 900,000 barrels a day, because of power outages due to the snowstorms.  But Helms says production jumped to 1,058,721 barrels in May.

Helms says he anticipates the June numbers will show production back to pre-April levels – and July will show a significant increase from that.  “We are heading towards maybe that 2% production increase for the year which would put us in the 1.3 million per day.”

Helms says the industry is still struggling to find workforce in the Basin.  “As of this week we have 18 fracking crews.  Prior to COVID we had 25.”

Helms says the optimal number of frack crews would be 50 to 55.  He also says 42 drilling rigs are currently working in the Bakken.
