ND: Weekend accidents

A North Dakota man died in a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning in Mercer County.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says, around 11:15 AM ten miles north of Beulah, a pickup pulling a boat trailer and an ATV were northbound on County Road 21.

As the ATV slowed near an intersection, the pickup tried to pass the vehicle. But the ATV turned toward the cross street and hit the trailer.

The ATV driver, 88-year-old Walter Morast of Zap, was ejected. He was later pronounced dead at a Bismarck hospital.

The driver and passenger in the pickup were not injured, but troopers say charges may be filed against the driver, pending an investigation.

A Watford City man was killed Saturday when his mini-van collided head-on with a semi near New Town.

The State Patrol says, shortly before 6:00 AM, the mini-van was westbound on State Highway 23, and crossed the center line.

The eastbound semi braked in an attempt to avoid the collision, but struck the minivan in the westbound right-turn lane.

The minivan driver, 18-year-old Eduardo Ochoa, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

About a quarter-mile of the highway was closed for approximately five hours.

Authorities say a North Dakota man sustained serious injuries in an alcohol-related ATV crash in McLean County.

The State Patrol says it happened shortly after 7-o-clock on Saturday night in Riverdale (ND).

Thirty-eight-year-old Wyatt Eisenbaum of Riverdale lost control of his ATV and rolled into a ditch.

Eisenbaum was airlifted to a Bismarck hospital.

Troopers say he was charged with driving under the influence.

Two people were injured – one seriously – in a one-vehicle rollover about seven miles south of Wilton, North Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says it happened Saturday around 2:40 AM on Highway 83.

A compact car left the road, entered the median and rolled. Both occupants were transported to a Bismarck hospital.

A passenger, 19-year-old Paul Massingill of Bismarck, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He sustained serious injuries.


The driver, 18-year-old Titus Covey of Bismarck, was injured. He was wearing a seat belt. Troopers say charges against him are pending.

Authorities say a woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she fell from a moving vehicle on Friday night in Williston.

The State Patrol says 26-year-old Aprille Poitra opened the door of a pickup truck and fell out.

The driver applied the brakes, but the pickup struck Poitra with the rear passenger-side tire.

Poitra was transported to a Williston hospital then airlfited to a Minot hospital.

Troopers say charges are pending against the driver, 24-year-old Logan McVey of Williston, who was not hurt.
