EGF residents talk roundabout project

By Doug Barrett Jun 9, 2022 | 9:28 AM

A roundabout project took center stage during a public meeting in East Grand Forks last night.

The proposed roundabout at Bygland Road and Rhinehart Drive has been a topic of talk at city hall for several years. In 2021 it was the top ranked project by the city council  for federal subcontract dollars.

Mayor Steve Gander later vetoed the decision in favor of the reconstruction of 10th Street Northeast. Gander says both projects are still moving forward behind the scenes.

Neighborhood concerns about the roundabout focus on safety and cost. Gander says it’s important to address those issues on a case by case basis.  “I think eventually there will be a roundabout at Bygland and Rhinehart.  When that happens it will impact adjacent properties…perhaps in an adverse way…but we can mitigate those things.”

The price-tag on a roundabout starts at some $1.6 million dollars.
