GFPD looking to hire six officers

By Doug Barrett Jun 7, 2022 | 8:01 AM

The Grand Forks Police Department will make application to the federal COPS program in hopes of landing six new officers.

The program reimburses a portion of the salary and benefits of new officers for up to three years.
Deputy Chief Bill Macki says last year the department fielded a record 53,477 calls for service. Macki says as calls go up more officers are needed to maintain current service levels.

Macki says there is no guarantee the department will receive full grant funding. Right now the GFPD has 92 sworn officers. The city council endorsed the move last night.

The deadline to apply is next week.
